Job Title: Senior UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator / Senior Linux Engineer
Experience Level: Senior (10+ years)
Position Summary
The Senior UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator will provide enterprise‑level support for a large Linux server environment. This role involves administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), system patching, performance tuning, security hardening, automation, and troubleshooting. The engineer will support approximately 300 Linux servers and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to maintain a secure, stable, and compliant infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain RHEL 8/9 systems including patching and configuration
- Build and configure Linux servers and custom environments.
- Perform performance tuning for Oracle database servers.
- Manage security vulnerabilities, remediation tasks, and compliance requirements.
- Use SolarWinds for system monitoring.
- Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks; manage Ansible Automation Platform.
- Administer Satellite 6, including upgrades and lifecycle management.
- Support VMware operational tasks.
- Lead system standardization, documentation, and environment automation.
- Respond to incident tickets and resolve issues within SLAs.
- Perform quarterly Red Hat patching to meet PCI and internal audit requirements.
- Support a 24×7 environment via rotational on‑call duties.
- Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders and assist with solution design.
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux OS and related software packages.
- Monitor system health, troubleshoot performance issues, and ensure system availability.
- Participate in R&D initiatives for new technologies aligned with business goals.
- 10+ years of Linux/UNIX systems administration experience.
- Strong proficiency in RHEL 8/9 administration and patching.
- Experience with automation tools, specifically Ansible.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, firewalled environments, and network topology.
- Experience with server migrations, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring tools (SolarWinds).
- Experience managing vulnerability remediation and system security compliance.
- VMware operational knowledge.
- Storage management fundamentals.
- Basic database administration experience.
- Basic Windows administration knowledge.
- Cloud integration familiarity.
- Experience with Veritas NetBackup.
- Understanding of JBoss, WebSphere, Splunk, HP ALM.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent hands‑on experience.
